We have been keeping this one close to the heart because we have been so gun shy about missing another breeding and so badly wanted it to take! Breeding will turn you into a very superstitious person! But if you've seen our handsome visitor Parker (OFA Link) you have probably been wondering who his lucky girlfriend will be. We ultimately decided Ophelia (OFA Link) would be that girl for several reasons and I wanted to share a little more insight into the thought process behind this pairing!

Ophelia is our keeper from our 2024 Bewitched litter which we specifically planned as a line breeding on a dog named "Matts" Daragoj Matter Of Time. Our goal was to solidify some of the traits from that line that I have always admired. The remainder of her pedigree is an outcross, with Matts being the only crossover between her parents. Ophelia exhibits so many of the qualities I hoped to retain from the Daragoj style behind her while also bringing some wonderful qualities from the American lines behind her sire Peppe. We are truly very pleased with her! Due to her unique heritage, being a little bit of a linebreeding and a little bit of an outcross , we had two different directions in mind for her and the first pairing to Parker is intended as an outcross!
Parker himself is also an outcross with half of his pedigree hailing from New Zealand and Australia and the other half combining several well-established American lines. When we first discovered Parker we were drawn in by his pedigree since there are not may (if any) dogs with these imported lines in the states. After getting to meet him (and his beautiful daughters) we became even MORE obsessed. He is exactly our style of beagle in so many ways! Of all our girls, we felt Ophelia was the best match for Parker because their physical strengths and weakness compliment each so well. They both have beautiful expression and heads, excellent substance, and energetic, confident temperaments. We hope Ophelia will lend Parker some of her beautiful neck and rear angulation and Parker can provide his lovely fore chest and ribbing and overall stature. We are really thrilled that Parker is a smaller male as bringing down size is a priority in our program right now especially since we have produced a few oversized males already. We want to be proactive so that when a boy truly calls to us in the future, we have a better chance of being able to keep him without worrying as much about size. We also hope this outcross will help eliminate the short toes we unfortunately saw in Ophelia's litter. Because of that, we may keep these puppies a little longer than we usually do in order to see if any appear with age.

There is so much thought, hope, effort and intention behind this pairing and we are incredibly excited to see what Parker and Ophelia produce together! Keep your fingers and toes crossed for them (and us) as this litter also has the possibility to be a rainbow with red (bi color) blue (dilute) and tri puppies!

Charlie x Poppy

I am nothing if not persistent when it comes to breeding.

I have had my eye on Charlie since I first saw him as an 8 week old puppy at my very first national in Aldie, VA in 2022. I have been admiring him from afar since, and my love for him was only reconfirmed at the 2025 national in Amana, IA where we got to see him again and he also won Best Opposite Intervariety.

If you have been following for awhile, you may remember we attempted this same breeding back in Dec. 2025 using chilled semen but unfortunately it didn't take. I have a suspicion that Poppy is one of those 'au naturel' girls who prefers things straight from the source. Her first breeding to chilled resulted in a singleton and this second attempt was a miss but her live cover breeding produced 6 puppies! Given those results I knew we just had to make a trip to see her boyfriend Charlie in person!

After a last minute flight (which Poppy handled like a champ) we spent a few days down in AZ enjoying the 105 degree weather and the great company! Spending this time with Charlie in his home just confirmed for me all the reasons that I was drawn to him in the first place. He is such a happy confident guy who takes everything in stride and doesn't get worked up ever. His tail is always up and wagging and he's ready for whatever is next! Pedigree wise Charlie has a lot of the pieces that we are already working with, just rearranged.

In the further back generations you can see Diego (Retro's sire), Matts (Ophelia's grandsire) and Truman (Poppy and Birdie are linebred on) Closer up there are several Starrinite dogs bred by Shelley Crovetto that I have admired for years now such as "Eden" Starrinite A Little Bit Of Heaven and Charlie's dam "Corazon" Starrinite Matters Of The Heart both of whom I find just gorgeous. My hope is that beacuase Charlie's pedigree shares some similarities with Retro's, he will complement Poppy in a similar way while also helping me accomplish some of the "mixing" of the different lines we are working with in our program already. Phenotypically Charlie and Poppy are more alike than Retro and Poppy, so I hoping this breeding will produce a more consistent litter overall than the Wildflowers even though this is also an outcross. We will see if this theory holds true!

Ultimately I would love to get a boy from this pairing who offers a more compact package, solid temperament, strong topline, and great bone all qualities that would nicely complement what our other in-house stud Retro brings to the table. each other out. That being said we are always open to a pretty little bitch keeper too!
